Team Human: Innovating for the Public Interest

An alternative tech ecosystem built by #TeamHuman for #TeamHuman is underway in the burgeoning world of public interest technology (PIT). PIT pioneer Public Interest Technology University Network and its director Andreen Soley explored how the Network has been actively working to collectively build a more responsible tech future on a national scale on March 9th, 2025. Attendees:
- Learned how PIT-UN has coalesced 63 universities and colleges on a six-plus-year journey to build the PIT field and cultivate a career path for #TeamHuman technologists interested in co-creating for the most exposed to and impacted by technological harms.
- Heard from Raymar Hampshire, a PIT practitioner and PIT-UN grantee at the University of Michigan and the product lead for Braid, an open-access storytelling platform that empowers educators to promote shared learning, student perspectives, and deeper knowledge.
- Also, learned how, and especially why, Tynesha McCullers, PIT-UN Operations Manager, teaches her students practical approaches that interweave optimism and skepticism when engaging media technologies in the classroom and in the community.
Guest saw firsthand why PIT is crucial to placing people at the forefront of the digital revolution and walked away inspired that The Tech We Want is already in motion.
